Hiking might be a second nature to who I am. I have grown up in the wilderness of West India, around the mountain forts of Sahyadri. In these wet deciduous and evergreen forests history and culture have intermingled in such a miraculous way that the mountains call your name.
After spending my time hiking around India and abroad, I noticed how distinguished the mountains are. Unlike major tourist destinations, smaller infrequent ones do not have clear paved pathway, which might be shock to some travellers. The slippery, black stones and dense vegetations of my home mountains teach us some basic rules to abide by, basic rules to follow while hiking.

Principle 1: good shoes, good shoes and good shoes
The most important aspect of any climb is to have a good pair of shoes. If you are an amateur hiker or even a regular one, having good trekking shoes is going to make a lot of difference.
A good shoes should : keep your feet dry. Yes, this the most important aspect of having good shoes. Your shoes with addition to your socks will keep your feet dry and warm. When the shoes gets soaked in water, it makes the feet wet. It results in swelling up of your feet, in similar ways how your hands get wrinkled after a long bath. It will affect both locally and to the moral of the trekker. Give a good grip well there is no reason to elaborate this point more. The rough terrain of a mountainside is uneven to our lifestyles. There might be wet patches, or sandy roads. The chances of slipping are drastically reduced with good quality trekking shoes. When there is more grrp, less chances of skidding and fall occur.

Principle 2: climbing up is easy, descending back is the challenge
As soon as we reach the top, a sigh passes from our mouths. There we are looking down at what we have accomplished. we have finally climbed the place which a few hours ago seemed difficult. But is the journey over? NO
The biggest mistake any young hiker does is taking the descent lightly. After all it requires less efforts. But remember, maximum incidences occur while coming down.
We need to fallow the basic rules while coming down

We need to fallow the basic rules while coming down
- DON’T BE A HERO: Nobody will time your total climb, and be proud of it. Completing the hike is an objective, not race against time. Faster you move, the higher force with which your body moves ahead, and greater will be the impact of fall.
- THERE IS NO SHAME: whenever you find a difficult patch, a higher incline: sit down This will lower your centre of gravity from a hight to near the ground. Falling chances wil be reduced drastically
- USE A STICK: if you are an amateur hiker, or on the over weight side, having a stick will help distribute the weight. It will also give areas of support for a better grip.
Principle 3: enjoy your journey. When you are surrounded by nature, enjoy every bit of it. We do not need to rush to our destination, as hurrying away can cause problems. When we tend to hurry, we start walking hastily. The ground is always uneven, one wrong step can turn into a large sprain or a fall.
Similarly, always keep an eye on the road. Trying to take photographs or drinking water while waking can turn into and unpleasurable situation
Have fun. Enjoy nature and take care of the environment and yourself.
